Since first grabbing our attention as one third of Destiny's Child, one of the most popular and best-selling girl-groups of all time, Beyoncé Knowles has gone on to a stellar solo career. Independent, powerful, and beautiful, maybe what's most impressive about Beyoncé, a.k.a. Sasha Fierce, is her sheer talent and ability to move easily among different roles. A singer-songwriter with 17 Grammy awards, dancer, actress, creator of her own fragrance, and now mother, she has shown that she can do it all!
Originally from Houston, Beyoncé (born Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter) got her start at a young age participating in local talent contests, once winning over children twice her age. She continued singing in high school and in local choirs before hooking up with childhood friends to form Girl's Tyme, which would later become Destiny's Child. The group saw their breakout success with their second album, 'The Writing's on the Wall,' with songs like 'Say My Name' receiving major airplay. During a hiatus with the group, she released her first solo album, 'Dangerously in Love,' which sold 11 million copies.
Following the disbanding of Destiny's Child, Knowles expanded into acting, appearing in films like Dreamgirls and The Pink Panther (and who could forget her in Austin Powers: Goldmember?) She married rap-mogul and producer Jay-Z, with whom she know has a little girl named Blue Ivy. Whether it's her entrepreneurial spirit, releasing fashion and perfume lines, or her support of causes such as empowerment of women and non-violence, this beautiful and talented star is here to stay.
